A
small Sanctuary of 20.98 sq. kms. in Jorhat district with
semi-evergreen forests and evergreen patches amidst tea gardens and
human settlements. The Sanctuary is named after the only Ape (Hoolock
Gibbon) found in India.
What you expect to see
Mammals : Elephant,
Leopard, Tiger, Pangolin, Assamese macaque, Pig tailed macaque,
Rhesus macaque, Stump tailed macaque, Capped langur, Slow loris,
Jungle cat, Indian civet, Giant squirrel, Barking deer, Sambar, Wild
pig, Squirrels.
Birds : Indian Pied
Horn Bill, Osprey, Hill Myna, Kalij pheasant etc.
Reptiles :
Indian Python, Common Monitor Lizard, Indian Tent Turtle, Indian
Cobra.
How to reach : By
road from Mariani Rly. Junction it is only 5 kms. away and from
Rowriah Airport (Jorhat) it is 25 kms., from Jorhat town it is 20
kms.

Gibbon Forest Rest House(a small rest house located within the
Sanctuary). For reservation contact Divisional Forest Officer,
Jorhat Division, Tel.- 0376-2320008 (O), 2320456 (R), Prasanti
Tourist Lodge under Assam Tourism Department located in Jorhat town,
22 kms. away from the Sanctuary. For reservation contact the Deputy
Director, Tourism Department, Jorhat. There are also many good
Hotels at Jorhat town.
