HOME  Mission  Achievements made by the Forest Department during the year 2006-07 to 2007-08

 
 
 

 

 

     
   
  • “The ‘Chief Minister’s Seuji Assam Achoni’ was launched on 12.05.2008 for Massive Afforestation and Greening Assam Programme.

     

    • 820 Ha. of Plantation shall be raised in forest and non-forest areas.

    • 800 schools will be taken up for plantation along with 17 k.m. of Road Side Strip plantation.

    • During the year 2008-09, One crore seedlings will be planted.

     

  • A Forest Protection Force is being raised exclusively for protection of Wildlife.

  • Provision for Free Ration and other logistics worth upto Rs.500/- per person to the frontline staff working inside Wildlife area has been made.

  • 1527 nos. of Casual Workers engaged prior to 1.4.1993 and still continuing have been brought under Fixed Pay @ Rs.2500/- p.m.

  • Steps taken to strengthen the Intelligence Network for gathering information on Wildlife Crime to combat poaching of Rhinos etc.

  • Under the Project ‘India Rhino Vision-2020’ - 2 male Rhinos have been translocated from Pabitora Sanctuary to Manas National Park for reintroduction of the species therein. Further, 4 female Rhinos rescued from Kaziranga NP have been re-habilitated in Manas NP.

  • Kaziranga National Park has been included in the Tiger Project.

  • A Vulture Conservation Breading Centre has been established at Rani. Again, 16 Pigmy Hogs have been released in Sonai-Rupai Sanctuary from the Pigmy Hog Conservation Breading Centre at Basistha, Guwahati.

  • 4,00,000 no. of Medicinal Plants have been raised at 10 locations and 100 Ha. of medicinal plantation have been under taken by 10 Forest Development Agencies (FDAs) along with raising of 3,00,000 nos. of bamboo plantlets in 6 nurseries and 4 nos. of Demonstration Plots for free distribution.

  • Construction of Forest Headquarter Building at Panjabari has been started.

  • Under 20 point Programme 190 lakhs seedlings have been distributed to the public and 27,397 Ha. area have been planted up during the last two years including raising of elephant fodder species.

  • Under Village Energy Security Programme 136.5 Ha. area plantation have been taken up and 3.41 lakhs of seedlings planted, 1230 no. of improve Chullahs and 75 no. of Bio-gas Plants and 2 no. Oil Expellers have been established.

  • Chief Minister’s ‘Seuji Dhora Achnoi’ which was launched in 2006 for awareness drive amongst the School children from Classes V to X for a Clean & Green Environment, concluded in 2008 with free distribution of 15 lakhs seedlings of fruit bearing, medicinal and valuable timber species.

  • An amount of Rupees 5 crore has been released for development of infrastructure of Kaziranga National Park - thereby Bailey Bridge, Range offices, staff quarters, water supply, high lands, bridges and culverts have been constructed.

  • 190 nos. new Frontline staff have been recruited for protected areas and additional 125 Armed Home Guards have been deployed in Kaziranga & R.G. Orang National Parks.

  • 5th & 6th Elephant Festivals at Kaziranga National Park were celebrated to create Mass Awareness for protection and conservation of Wildlife in the State.

  • Under National Afforestation Programme 19,165 Ha. plantation raised through JFMCs, 1.54 crores seedlings planted and entry point activities like construction & repairing of roads, bridges, community hall and provision of drinking water facility etc. have been taken up in 28 no. of FDAs.

  • For Modernization of Assam State Zoo in Guwahati, Rupees One crore has been released - a spacious Car Parking facility, modern Ticket Counter and an Air Conditioned Restaurant have been constructed.

  • For the first time fund amounting to Rs.50.00 lakhs have been released from State Sector for payment of Ex-gratia to the victims of animal depredation.

  • National Bamboo Mission has been launched in the State for planting of bamboo in 5,000 Ha. of forest and non-forest land and for free distribution.

  • Infrastructure and logistical support to the field staff in the form of 94no. of Vehicles, 184 no. of Rifles, 30 no. of Small Arms and Ammunition, VHF sets, Cell phones etc. for prompt networking and construction & up-gradation of buildings and camps, up-gradation of roads, bridges and culverts etc. have been provided with.

  • Socio-economic up-liftment measures like Para medicines, vocational training taken up, safe Drinking Water facilities, construction of Community Hall, distribution of sewing machines, piggery, bullocks have been taken up in 475 nos. of Forest Villages and 3655 Ha. plantation created and 40,20,500 nos. of seedlings were planted.

  • The Forest Department has been able to generate more than one crore Man days during the last two years.

  • Mass Awareness Programme with people’s participations for protection and conservation of Forests & Wildlife has been taken up through Publicity wing of the Department by conducting meeting , installation of hoardings/ signages, distribution of leaflets etc.

  • In all the Districts & Sub-Divisional H.Q.s the ‘Neem Nagari Achoni’ is being implemented and 50,000 Neem seedlings have been planted.

  • Plantations have been raised for 400 Ha. under Compensatory Afforestation and 2150 Ha. under Revolving Fund schemes in last two years.

  • An all time high Revenue collection of Rs.10 crores has been recorded during last two years.
